"DonneMaDonne"
The woman - secular and spiritual - in the music of Renaissance, early Baroque and southern European traditions. Songs about love, passion and the creative power of women - a musical journey full of stories about spirituality and humanity, about heaven and earth.
In its latest concert program, ensemble ONI WYTARS presents a comparison of two opposing images of women in the music of the 16th and 17th centuries, each in its own way a symbol of female beauty and strength.
The "secular woman", symbol of beauty, love and passion, depicted as a tender mother, heartless lover, happy or disappointed wife, farm girl, nun, old woman, lover or prostitute.
The "sacred woman", represented by the Virgin Mary, popularly also called "the Madonna". She is traditionally compared to symbols such as the sun, the moon, the star, the rose or the gate of heaven; the "Holy Madonna", therefore, who, as a young girl, is announced by the archangel Gabriel that she will give birth to the son of God and thereby become the mother of God herself. She is venerated as a symbol of purity, limitless love and motherhood.
Despite the differences, both images of women embody femininity and strength, and their stories have been immortalized in countless songs and compositions.
In its unmistakable style of interpretation, Ensemble Oni Wytars presents music by Kapsberger, Merula, Notari, Primavera, among others, as well as timelessly enchanting songs from the folk tradition of the Mediterranean region. They tell and intertwine stories of heaven and earth into a multifaceted musical fabric.
